The Eden Street Project

The Eden Street Project is a 12 month initiative currently being undertaken by OL1- Oldham.

We are very much looking forward to working with our partners amd communities to develop an area of unused land which sits adjacent to Barker Street Community Centre,

off Eden Street, in the town centre of Oldham.

The development of this area will benefit local residents and centre users by creating an outdoor extension to the existing community centre. It will enhance the current flora

and bio-diversity and help to create a much greener and cleaner area for all to enjoy.

Following a huge clean up plans include wild flowering and tree planting, bird nest box siteing and a free-for-all herb garden. A disability access, follow a living sensory pathway

will lead to the central event area. We are delighted to be working with Greater Manchester Green Spaces, First Choice Homes Oldham, The Prince's Trust and Northern Lily,

amongst others, to make this piece of work not only successful but also sustainable.

The scheme is funded by Greater Manchester Green Spaces and is supported by First Choice Homes Oldham

Storange for the equipment needed to complete the project is essential. Our aptly named shipping container 'Evergreen' was delivered and sited on April 17th. Wheelbarrows and shovels etc do, after all, require their own safe habitat!

Signage

The Eden Street Project was officially 'branded' by the location of a sign on June 17th as work began clearing the site, litter picking and preparing the area for planting. As our strapline states; we are very much hoping to grow our community by kick starting this wonderful habitat together.

The Prince's Trust

Land prep and wild flower turfing with some amazing young people from The Prince's Trust, Troop 143. Thank you guys, you really helped make a difference!

Bulbs

We have planted over 1,000 bulbs to make the area more attractive for residents and pollinators.

Dead Hedge

Our dead hedge is not really dead at all, it's actually teaming with life by providing a natural habitat for insects, pollinators and birds. It also looks fantastic. You can find out more about dead hedges here: https://www.rspb.org.uk/helping-nature/what-you-can-do/activities/build-a-dead-hedge-for-wildlife

Plants

We have planted lots of different plants to add to the bio-diversity of the area.
